Hiking and Biking
Renew your spirit, Energize your body, Explore the exhilarating trails of Marquette Country
Marquette’s new Biking Site - Let’s Bike Marquette
Marquette Country has more hiking and biking opportunities than anywhere else in the Upper Peninsula. With thousands of miles of back roads, marked trails, logging roads, cross-country ski tracks, national and state forest trails, and paved biking paths. Enjoy a leisurely ride along the largest fresh water lake, Lake Superior.
Some of the many marked trails for which maps are readily available include the Harlow Lake, Hogsback, and Sugarloaf Mountain trail systems, some of Marquette’s beautiful charms. The Mountain is known for its stunning views of Lake Superior, cliffs, and Marquette city. Presque Isle and the Bog Walk, Vandenboom Nature Trail, and the Elliot Donnelly and McCormick Wilderness are also nearby.

Every year Marquette plays host to the Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic and the Superior Bike Fest.
For eleven years the Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic race has brought bike enthusiasts to Marquette County. In the beginning 480 racers competed for glory. In 2009 over 2300 racers competed, and for 2010 the race committee expects to reach far over the 2000 registration mark.

Superior Bike Fest includes Pro and Citizen classes in Criterium, Road Bike to 100 miles, Mountain Bike Downhill, Mountain Bike Cross Country and Road Bike Circuit racing. Friday
night sees the return of Marquette’s Twilight Criterium. We’re closing the roads and bringing criterium racing to Marquette just the way it should be racing dead center downtown at twilight. Even the youngsters will have a chance to race their bikes through the streets of downtown Marquette.
